Fics like SECOND CHANCES MEAN PULL YOURSELF UP BY YOUR BOOTSTRAPS

Second chances are made with duct tape and cupped hands. They are made with mantras of please, please, please. Second chances sound like church choirs and deep breaths. Second chances are a sour tonic, calloused hands with ten dirty fingernails. They are bought with gritted teeth and clenched fists. What I’m trying to say is: you need to stop regretting. Dig yourself out. Crawl. Take a page out of the earthworm’s book. Search for water, for light. I mean, the action movies lied. There is only the hard way out and that’s through. What I’m trying to say is you aren’t dead until you’re dead. What I’m trying to say is: this isn’t your grave. Don’t lie in it. Scott finds Mike on a long drive down the road that wrapped around the whole world, curled into himself. Scott takes him home and tries again. And this time, they just might do it right.
