Fics like Beneath the Same Broken Sky

He stopped in front of her, like he didn't know what to say. Fiona just stared at him. Lip stirred beside her. "You got a baby," he said. "Two," she replied, chin jerking toward Lip. He blinked. Then, slowly, he dropped his bag and unzipped it. He pulled out a sandwich, squished, half-eaten, wrapped in a crumpled napkin, and held it out to her. "You can have the rest," he said. "It's peanut butter. No jelly." Fiona hesitated. Her stomach twisted with hunger, but she'd been taught not to trust strangers, even if they were small and sad-looking like her. Just dropped his backpack by his feet and let out a sigh like someone twice his age. "I'm Evan," he said, picking at the edge of his sneaker sole. "Fiona."
