Fics like to keep you safe, I'll be the villain

Alex Cabot has her future mapped out: law school, success, perfection. What she didn’t plan for was Olivia Benson, who crashes into her life with soft eyes and a relentless heart. In a world where legacy matters more than love, and silence is safer than truth, Alex learns too late what it means to want something that could cost her everything. College brings them close. Closer than Alex ever lets herself be. But when family pressure turns violent, Alex is forced to make the hardest choice of her life: break her own heart to protect Olivia’s future. "Montauk. Olivia’s hair was windblown, her grin caught mid-laugh. Alex was next to her, a rare softness in her face, like she had let herself be seen, completely. They were pressed close, sun behind them, arms wrapped around one another. Free. Just for that one second. Alex pressed her thumb to the edge of the photo, afraid that one day the color would fade, and she wouldn’t remember what Olivia’s eyes looked like in the sunlight." A slow-burn, college-era AU where they meet too early, fall too hard, and learn that sometimes the only thing crueler than fate is timing. Canon-divergent backstory for Alex/Olivia set years before SVU.
