Fics like close(t)

The absolute fuckening of her evening continues when she expects to quietly get inside the house and make her way to her room. Only to find Joel in the living room waiting for her. “Hey, party animal,” he teases when he looks up. “How was-” He must see something on her face because his levity drops. His brow furrows in concern, and he tosses aside the map he’d been looking at, the paper fluttering to the ground like a sad ass bird as he crosses the room. She goes to pull back automatically when he reaches for her, but her heart’s not in it, and he gets a hand on her shoulder and his other under her chin, tipping her face up to look at him when she tries to look down. “Hey now, what’s wrong?” (when ellie gets caught in a compromising position with cat, she's pushed into a fight with joel) (now if only she knew she wildly misunderstood what he meant)
