Fics like Hands of Men

Cardinal Lawrence has always been able to work miracles, and it is his greatest secret. When the bomb explodes, a metal shutter on the high clerestory windows - put there for their protection, but really to maintain their secrecy - is shunted from its mooring and flies across the Sistine Chapel. It strikes Cardinal Benítez directly. There is no choice, really. Thomas saves his life. And, in doing so, reveals his miracles to every cardinal of the assembled conclave. Unsurprisingly, this changes the outcome of the final vote. +++ “Do you accept your canonical election as Supreme Pontificate?” Aldo asks him. He seems apologetic about it, at least. Thomas takes only a moment to make sure that his words won’t break and his voice won’t tremble. “Accepto.” He always feared this day would come.
