Fics like the line between Naïveté and Hopefulness (is almost invisible)

She laughs lightly, lilting. “Hiccup,” she says, then– “well, I suppose you were just a babe,” and she reaches up slowly, taking off her mask. Her mouth lifts slightly in a quiet sort of smile. “I’m your mother,” she tells him. Hiccup laughs, for lack of anything better to do. Then he realizes she’s serious. Or: Instead of facing the Monstrous Nightmare in the Kill Ring, Hiccup packs up and leaves Berk on Toothless, defeating the Red Death on his own as he goes. Four years later, he turns his attention to dragonkind’s biggest threat: Drago Bludvist. In search of allies, information, or anything at all that could give them an upper hand against Drago, Hiccup and Toothless head north. What they find instead is one Valka ex-Haddock. Their reunion, it’s safe to say, doesn’t go quite as smoothly as it might have in a certain movie.
