Fics like His Blood And His Name

Things might have gone differently, had he not held me in his arms then. Had I not looked at him, with his own eyes, he might more easily have left me there in the straw. Then it would not have been so hard for him, I think; to surrender me to another man’s care as I believe he had intended to do. It would have been the wiser choice. I would have remained an open secret: a transgression, once acknowledged, then discreetly set aside. Prince Chivalry’s honour would have suffered a bruising, but it would have remained intact. Had my father not claimed me, he might still be alive. But I named him. And with the old power that names hold, I sealed him to it, and thus to his fate. My father raised me as he would a true-born son, in a court where all recognised me as a catalyst. And a Catalyst I became.
