Fics like The push and pull

The Dagger Squad are kept together after the mission under new command - a rear admiral who has a history of putting the mission ahead of his team. Something Jake knows all too well and he can’t let any of the other Daggers know what that can lead to - especially not Bradley. — “We’re all up for promotion on Friday, sir,” Jake tried to placate the situation, hoping the rear admiral would latch onto this topic. “Yes, I’ve heard a few rumours about that mission of yours.” The disappointment was evident in his tone. “Insubordination, fighting, and not even making it past a spare. Just know that as difficult as it was to get that ‘promotion’ of yours, it can be easily stripped away, understood?” “Yes, sir.” Jake kept his voice steady and body rigid. “That goes for all of those little ‘friends’ of yours,” any calm was gone with that one statement, the rear admiral in Jake’s face as he spat the words at him, pointing not at the group around the pool table but the door he was halfway to escaping through - the one Bradley had just left through. —
