Fics like Dance with the Devil

'Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?' - Joker This quote from the 1989 Batman movie with Jack Nickleson as the Joker was something that always stood out to me. Evangeline 'Buck' Ellison-Sandburg, formerly Evangeline Buckley, was ten when her life changed for the worse and for the better. Born with a soul mark, a mark that shows the status of one's soul upon the skin, she was seen as a freak to her parents. When she failed at her born task she became Girl as soon as her older sister was out of the house. On her tenth birthday she was finally ready to say enough after another beating and rape by her father. Waking from the beating fully online as a Guide with her spirit animal beside her she escaped her house and walked until she was found by Jim and Blair, who felt that someone of a high level had come online and was looking for her as well. Adopted by Jim and Blair her life changed for the better, but her Mark still bore the scars of her treatment from her birth parents. Years go by until she finally arrives at the 118 and once there, she faces even more challenges. All the while she finds herself dancing with the devils of her past.
