Fics like RIP to Orpheus But I'm Different

“What is it?” Charles asks. “Hang on,” says Edwin. He flips rapidly through pages of his notebook. He magically extended it a while back, so the bloody thing’s got more than seven-hundred pages full of Edwin’s notes and sketches. It makes for a tense several seconds of flipping. When he does stop, finding the correct page and holding it open under the light, Charles’ breath catches in his throat. “Is this her?” Edwin asks urgently. Edwin’s a damn good artist, even if he insists it’s just a practical thing. He’s captured her likeness shockingly well. Lank hair, full cheeks, sullen pout. Wide, staring eyes. “Yeah,” Charles breathes. “That’s her. Who is she?” Edwin is clearly horrified. No, it’s worse than that. Edwin looks scared. Charles’ instincts all kick up into high gear, and he has to clench his fists to resist the urge to simply shove Edwin into his backpack. “I don’t know,” Edwin says quietly, like he’s afraid of being overheard. “But I’ve seen her.” He hesitates. “In Hell.”
