Fics like auld lang syne

“We’ve met, actually,” Jake interrupts Sunghoon smoothly, keeping his eyes fixed on Heeseung as he says it, the sharp corners of his lips quirking up into a bright smile. “It’s been a while, though.” We went to high school together, Heeseung imagines in Jake’s lilting, slightly lispy voice. Heeseung was totally obsessed with me. Or, potentially, even worse: We barely knew each other. “We went to high school together,” Jake explains, in line with the fictionalized version of him Heeseung had created, and then – he diverges from it entirely, down a third path that Heeseung hadn’t anticipated. It is, somehow, the worst of all the worst-case scenarios he’d come up with. “He wasn’t my biggest fan, though. Right, Heeseung?” or: Heeseung, Jake, and all the stories they don't know how to tell.
