Fics like black wings in the cold

Even when he wandered around the village on dragonback and heard snippets of conversations that didn't make sense, and raced his friends around the island and heard twice as many voices shouting and laughing than there reasonably should've been, he pushed it aside and didn't dwell on it. It was probably just something related to his injuries – who knew what kind of side effects would arise from being concussed by a giant lizard tail and knocked unconscious for an unknown period of time? It wasn't until that night when he climbed into bed and drowsily bade Toothless goodnight and received a strangely familiar and sleepy "g'night Hiccup" in response that he realized something was up. Then he just figured he'd officially gone crazy. Because honestly, what kind of sane person would be able to understand dragons talking? Or, Hiccup finally absorbs a dragon's soul. It's not really a big deal.
