After a falling out with his parents regarding his future, Ren Amamiya enrolls in a culinary arts academy in the United States. There, miles across the sea, he has a chance encounter with Goro Akechi, who’d left him with a single glove and the memory of a bitterly cold winter evening. …He also learns that Akechi really can’t cook to save his life, nor can he afford takeout at the moment. Ren, eager to prove himself beyond curry and coffee, needs a harsh critic in order to hone his culinary skills. Someone who won’t just nod politely and choke down whatever’s on the plate. So, they strike up another deal. Ren will prepare a new dish each time they meet. Akechi will taste it, and give his verdict. If Ren can get Akechi to rank any meal an honest ten out of ten, then that means he’s succeeded. It’s a simple deal. And nothing could possibly complicate things.
