Fics like the things we invent (when we are scared)

Steve Harrington is his thousandth secret; his longest secret; the one that matters both too much and not enough. Sometimes, Eddie wants to put it all down on paper, tease out the threads until they lay flat and he can see the beginning, the middle, the end, understand how they got here and there, how it both started and ended with the sharp press of a beer bottle to the stubbled skin of Steve’s throat. It might make him feel better. Might make everything fucking worse. Regardless, Steve is a secret, and Eddie keeps him. For whatever that’s worth. In 1983, a battered Steve Harrington sits at Eddie's table in the library.
