Running down Sashi’s back against her pale, white skin, pooling in dust on the battlefield, wherever she is, whatever she chooses, there’s always blood, blood, and she’s sick of it, the sight, the smell, the feeling like she’s drowning in it. She wants some of it to just be her own for once; why isn’t that ever an option? Why couldn’t she suffer for her choices, for saying yes or no, for defiance and regret? But the blood is never hers.
