Fics like defy the odds

They’re at their favorite coffee shop when it happens. Henry’s laughing at him; beautiful and bold and wonderful in what is Alex’s favorite sound and smile. Happy. Free. But then, he turns to lead them out of the shop and bumps into a man. Alex imagines the moment in slow motion for them — listens to the way Henry’s laughter dies in his throat; takes in the dual wide eyed stares, the quiet exhale, a soft, “Oh,” breathed into the universe in the most catastrophic turn of events—an exaltation of revelation. Because, here, on a random Tuesday in September, just as Alex and Henry are about to head into their respective jobs, Henry’s meeting his soulmate.
