Fics like Childhood Recital

“...But that’s semantics, right.” She perks right back up afterwards, arms looping through Maki’s. “Can you blame me, though? I’m going to get to see the place where you grew up!” “It’s nothing worth getting worked up over.” Maki allows the hug, reluctantly, because she’s already feeling a little bad for making Kaede pout. It’s not like she’s upset about it, that Kaede is so excited. If anything, it’s a little endearing seeing how happy she is about this simple thing, fidgeting with her folder of piano music and bouncing on the balls of her feet, like a little kid. It’s just that Maki doesn’t want her to set her expectations too high. They’re visiting an orphanage, not a secret garden. Kaede might have all these preconceptions based on the little Maki has been willing to divulge about the orphanage, but there’s nothing special about it. No bells, no whistles. The kids there are the same as kids anywhere, and the old piano is direly out of tune. If anything, Maki is pretty sure Kaede is going to leave this whole venture feeling distinctly let down. …But at the very least, Maki shouldn’t speak it into existence. --- Kaede plays the piano for Maki's orphanage.
