Fics like pañuelo melody

“It sounds like the Alex I grew up with,” Henry tells him. He pauses, thinking if he can say it, but he holds on to the light, and tries, “The one only I got to see.” And Alex doesn’t leave him any room for doubt, telling him, “That Alex will always be yours.” Henry closes his eyes, chin quivering in the wake of new tears, grateful and pained, and even all these years later, still quietly in love. (In which Henry and Alex were children, growing up together, and Henry had always loved him, a little, a lot. And then they weren’t children anymore, and everything changed, and the memories are haunting, all-consuming, and divine.)
