Fics like the slash-and-burn method

It’s less a blur than it is fractured moments of horrible clarity. Buck isn’t sure how they make it into the ambulance, but he can remember Chris rolling his eyes when Buck told him to not answer the door for anyone while he went to recon the pizza. The delivery guy was lost, which wasn’t uncommon since the entire block of residential buildings Buck lived on decided it didn’t need anything as simple as numbers to mark which was which, so if he didn’t get a pretty dedicated person, he almost always had to go downstairs. It wasn’t the first or seventh time. Chris knew the drill. He’d flicked a piece of popcorn at Buck in an echo of what Buck had done to Eddie half an hour earlier, and told him to be fast, he was hungry. Sure thing, your majesty, Buck had bowed and Chris had laughed in that crackling way he did now while he steadily became more of a teenager. Buck smiled about it the entire way down. On the second flight, he’d realized he was still wearing his apron, debated going back up to leave it, then didn’t. The explosion came next.
