Fics like Lark

Lark came to the aquarium as a pup. He didn't know who or what he was before his life here in captivity. In his blissful ignorance he grew among the humans that cared for him, the crowds that came to see him. Being a lesser siren, his songs soothed rather than tempted, his instincts not strong enough to produce more than ease and healing upon those who heard him. It's what had made him so popular. His tank was open to the air, shallow near the glass where humans of all ages would stand waiting to hear him. Waiting to get splashed on the outside portion of his enclosure. On the inside, it was sealed and sound proof, his songs reserved for those who paid the most to get outside. He didn't mind it. The extra profits meant extra food for him, and good quality water. Or that was his limited understanding of how things worked in his very small world. Small but comfortable. Till everything changed.
