Fics like Elven laughter

Dwovouth never thought he’d be the type of dwarf to own an elf. He considered his own kin to be stocky and hardy and plenty able to perform the hard work needed in the mines or to maintain the craggy underground farms that relied on the light of glowing lichen that grew on the walls and the roofs of the caves they lived in. They were all lanky and tall, usually having to hunch in any dwarf-dug tunnels, and if you didn’t keep their antlers trimmed, they were even taller. It took a lot of work to train them up into something useful like a pack mule or plow-puller, and it usually meant months of work before you actually had something useful in your possession. ******* Dwarven laughter was booming and contagious, made to fill up the small spaces in the mines and make the dreary darkness a bit more light. Elven laughter was almost akin to song-birds calling, tickling and beautiful, a music in and of itself. It wasn’t the guffawing, raucous din that Dwovouth knew so well from the taverns, but instead a lilting, beautiful noise like a harp or a chiming bell. It made him smile, and there weren’t many things that made stone-faced Dwovouth smile.
