The raid had come without warning. Stefeon’s herd had been ambushed, and he had been captured. At first, he thought it was due to his status as the eldest son of the herd’s chief stallion which meant he was in line to inherit the title and position and all the power that came with it. Stefeon didn’t speak human, but it only took two days being bound and shackled with the other low-standing centaurs under the elements without anyone asking for his name and title to realize the humans didn’t care about his lineage. All they saw in the centaurs was a fresh crop of hard working slaves that could be sold at a steep profit, and Stefeon was no better than a common brown quarter horse despite his gorgeous appaloosa blanket markings and obviously superior standing.
