Fics like you make a mess of me

“I mean, you are a total mess, too,” he starts to explain, not quite sure why he’s insisting on doing so, on labouring this point. “Thanks, great to hear,” Ryan says, mock-offended, turning and leaning back so he can meet Oliver’s gaze. He’s suppressing a grin, skin around his eyes crinkling but mouth forced flat. “You are, though.” Oliver taps at the screen where the picture of the two of them is displayed. “Such a mess: pink suit, covered in dirt, missing shirt, hair everywhere. It shouldn’t be possible for you to look this good, considering.” He’s tries for joking but his tone misses the mark, hits sincere. Ryan mouth curls, grin escaping confinement. “Aww, Oliver, you flatter me.” Oliver should swat at him, shove him away, laugh it off. But he doesn’t. Or: Ryan looks good even when he's a mess. Oliver can't handle it.
