Fics like let me walk to the top of the big night sky

“Well, let’s do it!” Ash shouts. He grabs Gary’s hand, pulling him across the street to the park. Gary lets the youth of it all envelop him, lets the glee bubble its way out of his chest in a hearty laugh. They get to the top of a snowy slope, and then Gary sets the cardboard on the ground. Ash sits on it, setting Pikachu on his lap. Gary scooches onto the back of it, and it’s only once he’s sitting on the cardboard that he realizes what a bad idea this is. There’s no handholds, nothing to keep them on here. Just a prayer to Arceus and the falling snow. “Wait, maybe we shouldn’t -” “No backing out now!” Ash shouts, pushing them off with his foot. He lets out a whoop to the night sky, breaking the silence, and Gary has to follow suit, adrenaline pumping through his veins.
