Fics like it could stay this simple

“If you listened when I spoke instead of fantasizing about your dragon-riding days, you would know that those eggs are for your son’s favorite cake,” Shadowheart says, stirring her soup far harder than she has to. “When he asks for it first thing after walking through the door, as he always does, I’ll be sure to tell him that his amya thought it far more important to sweep the grounds for Vlaakith’s nonexistent assassins. Again.” ------------------------------ Shadowheart and Lae'zel have raised Xan, the gith egg, into a fine young man. Years post-canon, he's bringing home his first boyfriend for their approval. And that's something Lae'zel is hard-pressed to give.
