Fics like As long as I still hold a sword, Bakumatsu does not end for me.

Following Soji's death, Hijikata found a place to die only to suddenly wake up in modern day and find Soji undergoing care in a hospital. How did they get to the future--better yet, how are they alive? Historical Shinsengumi story | NSFW | Hurt/Comfort Whump | OR “I have something important to say. I’m going to sound crazy, but don’t panic. You did die. And I held you until the end. I felt the life leave your body. There is no logical way for you to be alive right now. And yes, I died too. I was shot in the spine in battle and I died and the next thing I knew I was waking up here in this place. 150 years in the future, so I’m told. I have no idea how this happened or why but I guess we were given a second chance, Soji. This time I know you’ll get better, but…you’ll have to take your medicine every day without complaining.”
