Fics like she hasn’t learned to bend before adversity

Sir grasps her gently by the shoulders and studies her like she’s a thing he’s placed under a microscope. The intensity of his dark eyes sends invisible bugs creeping and crawling all across her skin. “You look like a princess, Gabrielle,” he says, sounding proud. His hands weigh heavy on her shoulders, like a yoke. Gabi looks away from his eyes. She feels like a princess but not in the way he means. She feels like Rapunzel locked away in her tower, but without any dream of escape. There’s no handsome prince at the end of Gabi’s story, waiting for her to let down her enchanted hair. There’s only the trapped princess and her wicked captor without the promise of magic or hope to free her.
