Fics like Care and Keeping

It’s truly ridiculous. Animals die all the time, every day. Shinobu has no qualms about eating meat or fish, is quick to swat at flies and spiders. Why is she so torn up about this particular animal? Because it was cute? Because she feels personally responsible? Because she’d seen its body, seen the glassy eyes, the thin, dark dribble seeping from the punctures in its throat? There’s nothing special about taking a life, he wants to tell her. He closes his eyes, just for a moment, feeling so tired, so drained. You didn’t even do it on purpose. After his narrow victory over an animal that weighs less than a loaf of bread, Kira Yoshikage wants nothing more than to patch himself up, clean house, and get to work on time. Things are never that simple, of course. A missing scene fic set between the end of the Stray Cat fight and the morning afterwards. Illustrated.
