He figured that the gods thought that it was the only way for them to win against Gaea, by using him to unite the camps. A very small part of him had wondered if Poseidon simply didn't care enough, after Percy fulfilled his role and chose to preserve Olympus. "You are my child." Poseidon says. He wraps an arm around Percy and pulls him closer, until Percy's head is tucked in the space between Poseidon's shoulder and neck. Sitting here, wrapped in his father's cloak and embrace, with the warm fire crackling at his back and the scent of his mother's cooking from the nectar in his mug, Percy can almost believe that he's not in Tartarus. It's all too easy to imagine that he's at their Mohawk cabin in Long Island Sound, sitting by the ocean at night and listening to the waves crash against the shore.
