“Mista… Ransom?” Rita manages to mumble through the pounding in her head. Mista Ransom. Peter Ransom, Not-Ransom, Nureyev. She remembers. They’re not in Hyperion anymore, nowhere even near Mars, and haven’t been for months. She’s not a secretary and Mista Steel isn’t a detective and their home is the Carte Blanche, the most glorious spaceship in the universe with the best crew and they’re… family. The line is quiet for a few seconds. “Rita?” She tries to sit up, groans when the movement makes bile rise in her throat. On the other end of the call, Ransom pipes up again. “Rita, are you hurt? Where are you? What happened?” A heist goes wrong, and Rita finds herself alone, with Juno injured and unconscious.
