Fics like born of the bygone

It’s almost pathetic how easily Tommy’s body curls into a ball, knees pressed tight to his chest. It’s like instinct. Like surrender. Tommy came to college to escape his past, but part of it has resurfaced. This is better than that, he tries to assure himself. This is nothing like bruises on his ribs, hands around his collar, or awful words spat at him. Besides, he’s an adult now, isn’t he? He’s eighteen. He’s supposed to be all grown up. So why does he feel so much like a child? or, Tommy thought he could forget the things that happened to him in high school. In the middle of his terribly lonely freshman year at university, it all comes back to haunt him in the form of one history major with pink hair.
