Fics like Beyond the Web, Do I Matter?

Ben Reily was many things and a member of the spider society wasn't one for them. His purpose was to be a clone of Peter Parker, to be the one who could surpass him as the true "Spider-Man". He was treated more like an specimen rather than a human being. A imposter they could control and manipulate. He was obsessed with the idea of proving himself amongst his fellow spider people, to show them he was more than just a clone and a true hero. He was a symbol of hope and that's what he thought he would get to embrace among the society, getting to fight side by side with people just like him across the universe was a huge honour. But they just saw him as a joke. They claimed he didn't deserve to carry that symbol because he was a clone. A clone who didn't deserve those powers. He used humour as a deflection to defend himself from his comrades' insults, but deep down it hurt him. To them, he didn't matter. --- A character study of Ben Reily and how I think he'll be handled in Spider-Man Across the Spider Verse.
