It's not an exaggeration when Bradley says he has had to fight tooth and nail to get to where he is, earning his title as a renowned fighter pilot in a field dominated by posturing Alphas. He's dealt with them all, including Jake Seresin aka Hangman, who he's come to know as one of the most arrogant alphas he's come across, and the most prominent thorn in his side since flight school. Recalled back to Top Gun and the lead up to the suicide mission was just another instance of their deep-seeded rivalry, with the tension mounting between them at an all time high as the usual barbs dug a bit deeper in hopes of drawing blood, both of them fighting to prove who deserved the coveted spot. It didn't help that Bradley was also being faced with an alpha from his past, the very first one who did everything in his power to hold him back. The irony is that while the harsh mission parameters and the threat of death had everyone scared, no matter their designation, it was the aftermath of succeeding they should have all truly feared.
