Ren lets himself fall apart for a bit, thoughts crashing and rising inside his head like raging waves. There would be no next weekend for them, he realizes — not for this Akechi and him, at least. Maybe Ren wouldn’t have a next week at all, considering he was already running on borrowed time and desperation. He found the wrong Akechi again. He knows this. Even if his Akechi forgot everything about himself, even if he changed his identity on purpose, Ren has this feeling he could just discern the truth no matter what. He stares at this lump of joy next to him, lovely despite the furrowed brows and occasional groans, and he can tell: this is not his detective prince. (Ren walks through universes to return a leather glove, while the world he knows won’t stop crumbling all around him.)
