Ignoring his rather sappy thoughts, Stanley distracts himself by signing, “I think the yellow looks nice on you.” A little too late, he recognizes that he’s a lot worse at drowning out those kinds of thoughts than he would like. “Er– really?” the Narrator asks, voice growing quiet. In the dark of the room, Stanley is glad he can’t see the heat spreading across his face. “I mean, thank you, Stanley. I’m glad you like it.” (Or: Stanley gets to meet his Narrator face to face, and deals with both the good and bad consequences)
