Fics like Clean My Salty Eyes

Tommy does not live in a fairytale. He ran away from his parents in an act of survival, not rebellion. He gets a sketchy janitor job that’s in the middle of nowhere to have a place to sleep, not rest. Yet when he meets the creatures- the merfolk- he believes he’s in a fairytale. He cleans their tank and observes them from their iron bars, trying but failing to ignore the bruises on them. As time progresses, Tommy decides that the creatures deserve their happily ever after. No more Dream or experiments, and no more Tommy once they escape. No happy ending for Tommy. That is if the creatures didn’t have their own script they were following.
