Fics like And Blazing, They Fall From the Sky

Venti can pinpoint the instant that Zhongli sees Kaeya’s star-shaped pupil and makes the connection to the land they both helped destroy. His friend is good at hiding his emotions, but it’s easy to attribute his silence to shock. Zhongli’s hand twitches upward. Venti is quick to lightly step in front of Kaeya, trusting his tense smile to convey his warning. The wind sharpens momentarily, swirling at their feet. Zhongli’s hand stops and he takes on a pensive look, gaze flitting from Venti to Kaeya. He closes his eyes after a few seconds and hums, relaxing. “I see,” he murmurs. Venti accompanies Kaeya and his knights on a diplomatic trip to Liyue; no matter what happens, he can’t allow his friend to meet the Geo Archon. After all, what would Zhongli say if he knew that Venti was willingly harbouring a Khaenri’ahn ex-spy in his city gates? With the added threat of a perpetual shadow looming over them, he has to make sure everything goes smoothly. Of course, things don’t go as planned.
