The time is November 1983. Ennis has sent a postcard to Jack asking that they meet up in the mountains at Pine Creek. Months before, Jack has said, “I wish I knew how to quit you.” Ennis has said, “I’m nothing. I’m nowhere. I just can’t stand this anymore.” If Jack does not die, but he and Ennis do indeed have their confrontation at the lake, how can they possibly find a way to be together? How can they get past that look on Jack’s face as Ennis drives away?
