Fics like To Wish Upon an Open Flame

Kaeya hates birthdays. Every year for the past 5 years, he escapes from Mondstadt before dawn and disappears, a bag of strong wine to accompany him. He hasn't enjoyed birthdays since his time at the Ragnvindr family, and he'll be damned if he lets anyone waste their precious time on him. He'd rather be alone- well, not alone, but the only man he wants to celebrate with would certainly not be joining him. Diluc waits for Kaeya at the tavern, hoping that he will come in for a birthday drink. He doesn't know that Kaeya hasn't celebrated a single birthday in Mondstadt since their fight, and is shocked to hear from Jean that Kaeya always disappears with a bag of wine and...a single bottle of grape juice. He never returns until the following morning. Adelinde's cake, which he has promised to deliver to Kaeya, awaits in the fridge. He is determined to deliver it, having failed the previous year, and he sets off to the place where the two of them used to sneak off to during their childhood. Diluc tells himself that he's just going to deliver the cake and wish him a happy birthday. That's it. But as these things go, he finds himself in a much more precarious situation.
