Fics like don’t you shy away

Frye had always suspected it before, but it was priority ten-thousand among the many other concerns she had around her endlessly mysterious rescue, turned improv medical patient, turned roommate and close friend—such as where they’d come from, or why they were so anxious, as if leathered whips of punishment would bear down on them any second, or how she could make them feel more at home in this cramped old apartment nestled in the heart of a foreign city. Or why she was so hopelessly attached to them despite only knowing them for a few months—was it the slowly-emerging dry humor, the surprising penchant for theatrics, the way they’d gang up with Big Man to tease her with mirth sparkling like stardust in their eyes? There was a lot that Frye pondered when it came to Shiver, a lot that she discussed with Big Man when the night was cold and the scrawny blue octoling was fast asleep—but now Frye was starting to catch onto something else. Shiver could not see. (Or, how Frye and Big Man try to help Shiver with their disability, and how Shiver comes to understand family.) (A prequel to Choker and best enjoyed with its context, but can be read standalone.)
