Fics like you’ve had to be strong at such a very young age

Peter grips the polished sink, straightening himself into a standing position. When he raises his head, however, he’s met with his reflection. His horrible, soul crushing reflection. He never liked looking in mirrors back there. Too often he became a shell of himself, so caught up in the motions of playing along and surviving that he lost who he was. Seeing a reflection, or those horrible photographs Beck insisted on taking and hung up around the house just… It dwindled his hope more and more each time he was forced to notice the pieces of him that were chipping away. And now, he’s home. There’s so much hope for the future and so many good things to take in that he feels angry when he looks at himself. The bags under his eyes and sodden expression don’t reflect the joy he should be feeling. Why isn’t he okay? How come the memories of what happened have replaced the weight of those things actually happening? Is there something wrong with him?
