Fics like gloria of rubies and gold

Eight years can make a lot of difference. Edward Elric, youngest State Alchemist in history, is 15 when Executive Order 3066 takes effect, turning a civil war into genocide. All State Alchemists are to serve at the front lines of Ishval and kill indiscriminately, humans turned weapons. -- Ed shields his eyes against the blazing desert sun of Ishval and tries to ignore the way his white glove is stained red, pretends it’s oil instead of blood. There is a wave of heat from somewhere to his right and up ahead, yards away but unnaturally strong, and the wind carries with it screams and the smell of burning flesh. A shot echoes through the stillness of the high noon, and he counts to five in his head. Another shot. -- This story has a playlist!
