Fics like the time has come again for stars

Shadow looks at Sonic like he’s the sun, with blazing anger and contempt, and yet he complains in his absence. He looks most intently when Sonic leaves, and behind his eyes Tails can almost see the rumination with which one looks at a sunset, almost as if he’s wondering how he’d never seen someone like this before. Sonic looks at Shadow as if he’s the moon, cresting and waning in his light and vulnerability, soft, hidden adoration behind narrowed eyes. A thousand stars shine around him but he gazes just at Shadow, commenting fleetingly on small craters or how the light shines on his face. If that isn’t love, albeit buried under contempt, Tails doesn’t know what is. (or, five times that someone notices that Sonic and Shadow are in love and one time they do something about it)
