Fics like Conservation of endangered species

Tommys pod hasn’t made a sound since the water went cold. They’d made a lot of sounds beforehand. Chattering and grumbling and growling. They’d put him somewhere cool and dark, and then there was a funny sound. A low growly whine like he’d never heard before. And his Pod had made a lot of unhappy noises, and then they’d gone quiet. And all that was left was the strange growl, buzzing through the water. Even that’s gone now. He’s crawled out from where they’d put him, it was cold. He was cold, he was cold and hungry and wanted his pod. But they’d never answered his calls, and the water tasted weird when he opened his mouth to chirp. Like blood.
