Fics like Whispering Bells

“Tony, I’m not gonna let you just quit on us, on me.” Riff grabs Tony’s wrist, desperately seeking out any connection with the stranger wearing his best friend’s face. “It’s not about what you want, for once I have to do what I want.” Tony leans against the counter, tearing his hand out of Riff’s grasp. “You need to wise up, Riff. There’s two options for guys like us, die gunned down in an alley or rot in prison. I’ve seen one option and never want to know what the other is like, savvy?” Tony says, unable to look Riff in the eye. “Yeah, I’m savvy. You’re running away from everything we built, just because you lost your cool and made a mistake.” Riff shoves the taller boy into the counter, fading sunlight illuminating his face. “He coulda died, that ain’t a mistake it’s murder.” Tony doesn’t dare move, his face a calm mask that has replaced the fire Riff used to idolize. “Jesus fucking Christ, is that still eating you? C’mon Tony, what’s the real problem. You can tell me, womb to tomb.” Tony’s hand clenches into a fist, silence filling the air as he doesn’t voice the familiar response. “Go home, Riff.”
