Fics like These Are My Games

I wasn’t supposed to survive. Not the Games, not District 12, not the Capitol’s gaze. But I did. I clawed my way out of the arena with blood on my hands and too many ghosts in my head. I came home changed—harder, quieter, angrier. They called me a victor like it meant something golden, but all it really meant was I got to keep breathing while better people didn’t. And then there was Haymitch. Sharp-tongued, half-drunk, and somehow the only person who ever really saw me. We didn’t fall in love the way normal people do. We fought it. We bled for it. But in the silence between disasters, we found something real. Something worth staying alive for. The Capitol can take everything else—it already has. But it doesn’t get this. It doesn’t get him. It doesn’t get me. I’ve survived the worst of them, and I’ll survive what’s next. Because I’ve learned one thing: love is not weakness. It’s warpaint. And I wear it proudly.
