Fics like Herbert West: Re-Animated

“You came back?” Herbert said, voice soft. Dan just nodded slightly. A lump rose in Dan’s throat. Herbert’s response had ripped a small tear in Dan’s heart. He’d never seen West look so…lost. So dazed and unguarded. Uncertainty replaced the typically acute stare behind those thick lenses. Dan tenderly reached for Herbert’s trembling hand. Finally holding onto the hand he regretted letting go of. He expected Herbert to flinch at his touch. Instead, Herbert gripped Dan’s hand like it was the only thing tethering him to reality. Basically: Herbert dies in the Miskatonic Massacre and Dan re-animates him, hurt/comfort ensues.
