Fics like Sword crossed lovers

“al-Kaysani!” Yusuf, on his way a warm bath to soak his tired muscles, a warm meal to regain his strength, and a warm bed to sleep for about ten hours, not necessarily in that order, stops in his tracks when he hears Nicolò’s voice. It’s strange, he ponders, how he never really talked to Nicolò. They’ve both been at the castle for months now, vying for a spot in the royal guard. They train together every day, fighting hand-to-hand or jousting with blunted blades or shooting at practice targets. They both get run ragged by the Head of the guard, Andromache, who seems to never get tired or hurt or even out of breath. They have seen so many of the men who started the gruelling training with them drop out, and they’re both still here, two of the small group to make it this far. And yet they’ve never sat down for a meal, or even a drink together. *** Spoiler, at the end of this fic they still haven't shared a meal together. But they do share something else.
