Eddie gasps out another breath of relief and hugs Christopher tighter, trying to dig himself out of the pit in his stomach, the one he’d been falling deeper and deeper into for the brief moment where he’d thought Christopher was gone. For a moment, his heart soars, because his son is alive and Buck is alive, and they’re both right here, and they’re both okay, and he can see Chim and Bobby and Hen gathering around Buck. His heart soars. And then Buck collapses, and Eddie’s heart slams right back into the dirt.
