Fics like This Universe Just Ain’t Big Enough To Keep Us Apart. (No. Not Ever.)

“Forever.” Magnus, spits out, his whole face twisting with the word. “I’ll always be there for you,” he snarls, throwing the words Alec has delightedly sworn to Max for years now back in his face like they’re something poisonous. “He’s only a child, Alec. He doesn’t understand like I do, and its cruel to keep giving him this false hope. It’ll break his heart when he realises the truth and I won’t let you do that to him.” “You can’t keep promising him you’ll be there forever, Alec. Because you won’t be. Even if he weren’t immortal, you’d still die before him. But he’s not, he’s going to live a long time after you’re gone and he needs to understand that before it’s too late and it shatters him.” (or, Alec forgot to tell Magnus when he became immortal some ten years ago and now they get to have a fun conversation.)
